Plain and simple – Coronado is a great place to live, and Coronado real estate offers a myriad of awesome lifestyles.
Also known as Coronado Island (Nado to most locals), the city was incorporated in 1890 and measures only 13.5 square miles. Coronado is Spanish for “the crowned one”, and thus it is nicknamed The Crown City.
Located just minutes from downtown San Diego, this enchanted “island” has it all – beaches, parks, numerous recreational activities, highly rated schools, top notch municipal services, a wonderful climate and an ideal location.
I have been coming to “the island” for about 20 years, beginning when my parents moved here. Growing up in North County San Diego, I thought Coronado was “elitist”, but since moving here with my wife and sons I’m happy to say I was wrong.
Our town is a caring and active community. Folks here smile and are pleasant around town. Bikes are common. The mayor is whip smart but as humble and nice as anyone. The streets are beautifully kept. It’s surrounded by water. There are world-class restaurants and views. The weather is phenomenal and moderate. It is basically like living in a resort.
Coronado’s population is 26,459 according to the Chamber of Commerce, and the town’s demographics paint a surprising picture…
• 70% of the residents are between the ages of 18 and 65 – with a median age of 30 (!) – a pretty young and very active population.
• With 32% of our residents (families) in active military – the median household income is $82,257, keeping the ratio of homeowners to renters at a close 53% to 47%. What this means to me is balance, which I really appreciate in the town where I’m raising my children.
In terms of real estate, Coronado homes definitely occupy the upper spectrum* of San Diego’s home values, and for good reason. From the stately Ocean Boulevard properties in the THE VILLAGE, the penthouses overlooking the bay and Pacific Ocean at THE SHORES, to THE CAYS where many properties have their own dock on the bay, the city of Coronado has the lifestyle most of us dream of. The median home listing price is currently $1,595,000 (as of 11/2013).
